TWO RIVERS HEAD START PLASTILINA

2 cups white glue
a few drops of food coloring
1 1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons Borax powder
1 cup hot water

Mix glue, food coloring and 1 1/2 cup water together in a bowl. Mix the Borax powder and hot water in a separate bowl. Then pour the Borax/water into the glue/water mixture. Stir quickly until combined. Knead the dough until it is no longer sticky. Store in an airtight bag or container. If properly stored, Plastilina will last a couple of months.

EQUIPMENT:

Napkins, Cups, Mixing bowl, Plastic knives, Spoon, 2 serving bowls, sharp knife, measuring cup

INGREDIENTS:

·         2 5-oz cans cooked chicken, drained or fresh equivalent

·         8 oz. cream cheese, softened

·         12 oz. crushed pineapple, drained

·         1/2 cup finely chopped celery

·         1/4 cup mayonnaise

·         36 triangle-shaped crackers

·         36 oval or round crackers

PROCEDURE:

Teacher/Parent Prep:

1. Get cream cheese out to soften.

2. Open and drain/chop chicken and pineapple. Chop celery.

3. Arrange the equipment and ingredients for SNACK preparation. Measure or help children measure mayonnaise.

Children Prep:

1. Put these ingredients in mixing bowl: softened cream cheese, chicken, pineapple, celery and mayonnaise.

2. Mix the ingredients with spoon.

3. Place oval (or round) crackers in one bowl and triangle crackers in another bowl.

4. For each snack, take an oval cracker, put some chicken salad on it,and place a triangle cracker with short side down into the salad. This is the sail of the boat.

TALK ABOUT:

·         The shapes of the crackers and other shapes.

·         Discuss sailboats and if any of the children have been on a boat.

·         Discuss the different food groups in the snack.

Do-It-Yourself Face Paint
 

 

 

 

 


INGREDIENTS:

·        Paper cup or margarine tub for each color you are creating

·        1 Tablespoon corn starch

·        1 teaspoon white cold cream

·        food coloring

PROCEDURE:

·        Cut paper cups down to make them lower.

·        In each cup, combine the corn starch, cold cream and food color.

·        Mix until smooth.  A few drops of water can be added to get right consistency.

PAINT:

Use your imagination to create a new look.  Face paint can be saved by storing in a tightly covered container.
