About Head Start
Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.
Head Start believes that the child's family, as well as the community, must be involved to truly benefit the child. Head Start works with parents to help them build better lives for their children. Parents are directly involved in planning Head Start policies and activities. We also encourage all parents to volunteer in the program.
Two Rivers Head Start Agency offers a free half-day preschool Head Start Program for income-eligible children throughout Kane, Kendall, DeKalb, Grundy and Boone Counties in Illinois.
Two Rivers also offers a full year/full day program (KEYS) for parents who are working or enrolled in school. Fees are minimal for full year/full day and based on a sliding income scale. This program is offered in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Human Services.
Head Start accepts children from age three through five (not eligible for kindergarten). Ten percent of enrollment slots are made available to children with disabilities.
