General Description

Responsible for social services and parent program activities.

Required Knowledge & Experience

  • Four (4) year degree in Social Services or related field.
  • Must have ability to work with parents effectively.
  • Must have valid Illinois Driver’s License and be able to provide own transportation to assigned centers if necessary.
  • Must be available to work evenings as needed.
  • Must pass all preliminary pre hire requirements including but not limited to Drug Testing and Criminal Background Clearances.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Make Head Start families and the community aware of the services available through Head Start and CSBG.
  • Assist Center Supervisors and Family Workers at designated centers as needed.
  • Have periodic meetings with teaching staff, and Family Workers based upon need.
  • Provide support to center staff to ensure Suspected Child Abuse cases are properly documented and reported according to DCFS and agency policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for recruitment of families in assigned district and maintaining a full enrollment and an accurate waiting list.
  • Compile monthly statistical reports submitted by Family Workers and Center Supervisors.
  • Assist families with paperwork for the application process as needed.
  • Keep confidential social service records on family visits and information pertaining to Head Start children and families.
  • Responsible for all CCR & R paperwork, processing and follow through.
  • Act as a resource and attend parent meetings as needed. Assure that content and appropriateness of meetings is maintained.
  • Submit monthly reports to Associate Director. (i.e., attendance/enrollment information as required.)
  • Establish and maintain appropriate files and records of social service operations and activities in Head Start.
  • Assist with In‐Kind distribution.
  • Assist in providing emergency assistance and crisis intervention (or referral) for Head Start children and their families.
  • Responsible for maintaining 85% or better ADA. Keep attendance records and monitor 1
  • Assist in follow‐up on all social service referrals, through Two Rivers Head Start Agency or other agencies, to ensure delivery of needed services. Act as liaison person between center, home, and community.
  • Act as an advocate for parents.
  • Assist in recruiting parents and volunteers.
  • Assist with the recruitment of children.
  • Participate in staff conferences and training sessions as needed.
  • Assist Content Area Coordinators in providing training and technical assistance to parents.
  • Assist Family Worker with parent committees in conjunction with Policy Council.
  • Assist in coordinating parent orientation.
  • Assist Executive Director and Associate Director with Community Needs Assessment.
  • Support Family Workers with Family Goal Setting and the Family Partnership Agreement process.
  • Assist in accessing community services and resources.
  • Assist in parent involvement.
  • Assist Content Area Coordinators in parent involvement in child development and education, health, nutrition, and mental health education.
  • Support and promote parent involvement in community advocacy.
  • Support and promote parent involvement in transition activities and assist families with transitional services.
  • Actively support and promote community partnerships.
  • Assist with advisory committees as needed.
  • Visit and document visit at assigned centers in assigned area on a regular basis.
  • Perform any other assigned tasks relevant to the effective operation of the agency or assigned by supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

  • Must have sufficient strength and flexibility (ability to stoop, bend, twist, etc.) to frequently bend down to a child’s level, sit on the floor with the children, respond to a child’s quick and frequent movements and occasionally lift a child (30‐50 pounds). Must have ability to work in an environment with a high noise level and considerable activity.
  • Physical demands ‐While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit for long periods of time; bend down to a child’s level, sit on the floor with the children, respond to a child’s quick and frequent movements, use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move 30 to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close and distance vision.
  • Work environment‐ Must have ability to work in an environment with a high noise level and considerable activity.
